is one of the divisions of

PurposeThalassemia is one of the most common inherited blood disorders known to mankind. It is estimated that at least 12 children are born with Thalassemia disease every hour in the World. In the recent past, the quality of life of many Thalassemia patients have improved. This contribution comes not only from the scientific advances but also due to of enormous self-less efforts of many individuals that include Patients, Parents, Scientists, Medical Experts. Several dedicated Institutions have made enormous progress in improving the access and care of these patients. These efforts have so far not been appropriately valued.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the son and also the current Advisor for the President of the United Arab Emirates, has been deeply committed for the welfare of Thalassemia Community since a long time, having initiated several magnanimous projects for the benefit of Thalassemia Patients and their families.

As an extension of his vision, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan has now taken another noble initiative in recognizing these individuals and group efforts, for first time in the World, by establishing Sultan Bin Khalifa International Thalassemia Award in partnership with Thalassemia International Federation.
