Why some of the Award Categories are restricted to the residents of the UAE?

The decision on the first year of International Thalassemia Award Categories was based on the recommendation of the Thalassemia International Federation (http://www.thalassaemia.org.cy) and the elite members of the Higher Scientific Committee (http://www.sita.ae/awards/contents.php?ct_id=37).

Having said that, it is also important to realize that judging the efforts of individuals (Patients/ Parents/ Doctors/ Nurses…) is very challenging, as the circumstances that make them excel is unique to the social, cultural, economic and political factors.

For this reason, in the first event, some of these Awards are restricted to those who are residents of UAE. We first need to learn more from the local experience.

We do welcome suggestions that would help us to expand the International Thalassemia Award Categories in the coming years.

You may send your suggestions at info@sita.ae.
